The Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) was created in March 2006 at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico to help address water challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. It is an independent, not-for-profit, non-partisan, non-political network dedicated to solving the region’s water problems.
In December 2006, the APWF organized the 1st Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Beppu, Japan, focusing on the theme “Water Security: Leadership and Commitment.” The Summit launched a series of concrete initiatives for regional water solutions.
In February 2012, the APWF will hold the 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit (2nd APWS), supported by regional and international organizations and hosted by the Government of Thailand. The 2nd APWS will emphasize three policy priorities for Water Security: Development, Shocks and Resilience, and Well-being.
The Summit will provide Asia-Pacific leaders and stakeholders, as well as international organizations the chance to jointly seek solutions on water resource development and management for regional water security with participation from public and private sectors, technical experts, academics and civil society. ADB is the lead organization of the Focus Area Sessions on Water Security: Leadership and Commitment.
